Wasps to give Cipriani and Haskell contract deadline

Wasps plan to offer Danny Cipriani and James Haskell new contracts this week but the England pair will only have until the end of the month to agree to the offer and sign the contracts.

Last year’s Premiership winners are under new ownership and the new owner Steve Hayes, is determined not to let the issue rumble on into the new year as rival clubs are free to negotiate with them from 1 January .

Both players will be in line for big increases having won England caps since signing their current contracts.

“I am confident that Danny and James will be staying with us,”Wasps chief executive Tony Copsey told the Guardian.

“We have been talking to them regularly and, while there is no pressure on anyone, we would like to have the contracts dealt with by the end of the month.

“We are in good financial shape with Steve taking over the ownership and we are bucking the current trend.”

“Wasps has been and will continue to be about the people,” he said.

“We want to ensure that we keep and attract the best players to ensure we maintain the success that has been seen over the last decade.”

Wasps have won at least one trophy in each of the last six seasons and have traditionally been slow starters and this season was no different.
