Wasps do the job against Edinburgh

London Wasps did just enough to beat Edinburgh by 19 points to 11 at Adams Park in High Wycombe which puts the Wasps in touching distance of Leinster who they will play next year at Twickenham.

Fly-half Dave Walder converted his own try and added four penalties as the former champions kept the pressure on Pool 2 leaders Leinster.

Before the game there was a minutes silence for Lawrence Dallaglio’s late mother – setting a sombre tone for the afternoon.

Walder and James Haskell aside this was a very ordinary Wasps display.

They set out with the goal of winning, which they did, but in the process they stumbled around like a wounded animal prolonging it’s inevitable fate.

Speaking after the match Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards said, “If we could have got the bonus point it would have been much better but at this time of year I don’t think there are many bonus points around in the Heineken Cup with the weather we have had.

“Against a very dogged Edinburgh team we are just delighted to get the victory.

“We just need some wins under our belts to gather some confidence.

“Once we get to the big games we would like to think we could up our performance level.”
