Dallaglio reveals horror dog attack on son

Wasps captain Lawrence Dallaglio revealed his son Enzo was attacked by his own dog ahead of Sunday’s Premiership semi-final against Bath.

Dallaglio’s six-year-old son suffered severe facial wounds on Wednesday evening when his Rhodesian ridgeback Como attacked him just as the player was preparing to leave for Wasps’ end-of-season banquet at the Hurlingham Club.

Enzo spent two days in a Tooting hospital, where the wounds were stitched, and he is expected to make a complete recovery.

It was the worst possible preparation for the Bath clash and Dallaglio told the Sunday Times: “I feel guilty about it because I brought Como into our family. Enzo didn’t provoke him in any way and I am pretty sure there’s an explanation for what happened.

“The vet and I believe Como may have had a tumour that is pressing against his brain and when touched on that part of the head, the pain was unbearable and made him react as he did.”

Sunday’s match against Bath could be Dallaglio’s last game before he retires and he added: “It has been a stressful week and I do feel on edge.

“But, from experience, I know I play well when I feel like that. The only effect it will have on me will be positive. Emotionally, I will be where I need to be for this match. Bath needn’t worry about that.”
