Vincent Clerc out for several months – knee injury

France winger Vincent Clerc is expected to be out for six months after rupturing ligaments in his left knee while playing for Toulouse on Saturday.

Clerc collapsed with the ball without being touched during a 23-11 loss to Clermont in the French Top 14. Television replays showed Clerc’s knee moving out of its socket shortly before he fell.

He was taken off on a stretcher.

“(Clerc) appears to be seriously injured to the knee,” Toulouse said in a statement on its Web site.

He will miss the two-test tour of Australia in late June, early July.

Clerc starred for France at last year’s World Cup and in this year’s Six Nations, scoring five tries in both tournaments. He has 20 tries in 33 internationals for Les Tricolores.
