Whiteley named Lions Super Rugby captain

Warren Whiteley will captain the Lions

Johannesburg based Super Rugby franchise the Lions have confirmed that Warren Whiteley will captain the side in the 2016 season.

Whiteley’s appointment will be his third consecutive Super Rugby season as Lions captain.

Whiteley has already captained the Lions on 52 occasions and coach Johan Ackermann said it was an obvious choice as it builds continuity to have the same captain as the last two years.

The Durban born and former Glenwood High student said that he was honoured to have been named captain again.

“It is a big honour to again lead the Lions in the Super Rugby competition. I take the task very seriously while I also enjoy making decisions on and off the field. ”

“While I think nothing has changed it becomes easier.”

” Also because we’ve got such a great core of leaders around me,” Whitely said.
