Top 14 Club Toulouse cancel Bok Hooker’s contract

Top 14 Rugby club Toulouse have cancelled the contract of Springbok hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle who is under investigation for doping.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ralepelle has made 22 appearances for the Springboks, but suffered ruptured knee ligaments in February 2014, and then tested positive for an anabolic steroid, in June the same year, while undergoing rehabilitation.

In 2010 Ralepelle failed a drugs test when he was found to have the banned substance methylhexanamine in his blood after the Springboks Test against Ireland in Dublin.

Ralepelle’s contract was to expire in June this year but has been terminated early.

The former Springboks under-21 captain has so far escaped punishment but Toulouse were reluctant to reintegrate Ralepelle back into the side despite his full recovery.

The club’s director of recruitment Jean-Michel Rancoule revealed the two parties had reached a “friendly” agreement to end the South African’s contract who has made just 16 appearances for Toulouse since October 2013.
