Scotland call up Cowan for injured Gilchrist

Blair Cowan has been called into the Scotland squad

Scotland have called up Blair Cowan after second rower Grant Gilchrist was ruled out of the Rugby World Cup due to injury.

Gilchrist was ruled out Scotland’s Rugby World Cup 2015 campaign with a groin injury on Monday.

Cowan was part of the Scotland Pre Rugby World Cup squad and featured in the warm ups but missed out on the final selection.

New Zealand-born Cowan qualifies for Scotland through his Scottish mother.

Cotter still has Tim Swinson and brothers Jonny and Richie Gray available as second-row options.

Scotland lead South Africa in the Pool standings by three points and on points difference ahead of the clash betwen the teams on Saturday.
