Pocock, Folau set to return for Australia

David Pocock is near to returning for Australia

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has confirmed that he expects to be able to bring back Israel Folau and David Pocock for the Rugby World Cup quarter final against Argentina on Sunday.

Cheika has however revealed that first choice prop Scott Sio is in doubt for the match and will have a scan on his elbow which forced him to leave the field in the 35-34 victory over Scotland on Sunday.

Pocock has been moved by Cheika from flanker to No 8 by Cheika has been instrumental in Australia’s victories over England and earlier in the year New Zealand but missed the quarter-final because of a calf injury.

Meanwhile fullback Folau has been hindered with an ankle injury since the victory over England and was rested for the quarter final against Scotland which is the first time since he made his debut in 2013 that he had missed a match.

“Pocock ran yesterday pain-free, so he’s looking more promising,” said Cheika.

“Folau will run again tomorrow so I’d say it’s more chance that they will play than they won’t at this stage.

“Sio’s going to get a scan now. ”

“He’s still very reduced in motion because he’s got a big haematoma there in his elbow, so he hasn’t got a lot of range.”
