The Waratahs have confirmed that captain Rocky Elsom is on track to start playing Super Rugby next month in the middle of March and Drew Mitchell is out for at least a month.
Elsom had surgery on his right hamstring last November and his rehabilitation is going well and he has now progressed to running.
Waratahs medics have predicted that the former Wallabies captain is on track for a mid-March return to action.
The Waratahs have also confirmed that Drew Mitchell will miss the next month of Super Rugby at least as he is currently undergoing rehabilitation and treatment for a tear to the tibialis posterior tendon (right ankle), caused by the tendon rubbing on a spur of bone that was the result of the fracture he suffered in April 2011.
In November Drew was operated on to remove the bone fragment and a small part of the tendon.
During his rehabilitation, Drew developed tendinopathy which has impacted on his recovery and several weeks of rest failed to alleviate symptoms.
Waratahs Rugby Chief Medical Officer Dr Sharron Flahive in consultation with the ARU have decided Drew will now undergo a period of immobilisation in a boot, with ongoing treatment, for a period of up to four weeks, after which time his condition will be assessed.
Meanwhile the Waratahs have been forced to delay naming their team to face the Reds and the team will now be confirmed on Thursday morning.
A team announcement had been planned for tomorrow, this has been delayed to give several players extra time to prove their fitness.
