The Wallabies' World Cup-winning captain John Eales has been appointed to the board of the Australian Rugby Union, the ARU said on Thursday.
Eales, 39, who played 86 Tests for Australia and led the Wallabies to the William Webb Ellis Cup in 1999, was elected unopposed at the ARU's annual general meeting.
Eales fills the vacancy left by the retirement from the board of former Australian Defence Force chief, General Peter Cosgrove.
Since his retirement in 2001, Eales has been involved in leadership consultancy and sports marketing.
Eales was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1999 for services to the community and rugby and received the 2000 Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to Australian rugby.
