London Wasps beat London Irish 33-22 in the Guinness Premiership at Adams Park outscoring the vistors by four tries to three with the help of a penalty try.

London Wasps led from start to finish as they overcame the Exiles who made an underwhelming start to the match as they were reduced to 14 men only four minutes in as Steffon Armitage was sin-binned, resulting in a penalty try for the hosts.

Wasps extended their lead to 13 points after 16 minutes thanks to two penalties from Dave Walder.

However, Irish finally scored points in the 19th minute as Seilala Mapusua opened the visitors' try-scoring.

A second yellow card of the clash saw Wasps centre Steve Kefu sent off for 10 minutes, but the hosts were unperturbed as they scored their second try through Tom Varndell, before Dan Ward-Smith put the hosts ahead 23-10 at the break with the third five-pointer.

Dominic Waldouck secured the bonus point for Wasps 10 minutes into the second half with the fourth try taking the hosts 20 points clear after Danny Cipriani's conversion.

Irish came back strongly towards the end of the match scoring two tries through Steffon Armitage and James Tideswell, but Wasps held on for the win as Cipriani slotted a late penalty.
