The Melbourne Rebels who will join the Super 15 next year could have a South African flavour to them as they are said to be weighing up three South Africans.
Stormers flanker Duane Vermeulen is said to be on their radar while Springbok brothers Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis could also be on their way to Melbourne.
The Force are said to have been interested but the Rebels are hoping that by offering both brothers a contract they will succeed where the Force failed.
Rebels Head coach Rod Macqueen and football manager Greg Harris met with them during their visit to Australia with the Sharks this month and Rebels insiders are adamant the club is right in the hunt for them.
"Obviously, it's a pretty big move for them, especially for Jannie who is a doctor, but we're definitely on track," one Rebels source told the Australian.
It is also understood backrower Vermeulen who has been with the Stormers for three seasons is is interested in migrating to Melbourne.
The Rebels are assessing how the 23-year-old would fit in with their team and the ongoing difficulties in securing an ARU clearance for England flanker Michael Lipman could open the door for Vermeulen.
The Rebels still have an open offer to Gareth Delve but he will not be able to stall them for too much longer while he finds out how successful his Wales comeback is.
