McGeechan and Davies back in South Africa for Lions

The British and Irish Lions coach and manager for next year’s tour to South Africa are presently in Durban to watch the Springboks.

It is Ian McGeechan and Gareth Davies’ second visit to South Africa this year – and this time they’re in the country to watch the Springboks’ two Tri-Nations matches against Australia.

Unlike their previous visit the pair will not be giving interviews.

They visited South Africa in June to inspect the various venues where the Lions will play next year and also took in the incoming tour Tests between the Springboks and Wales.

Their wives are accompanying them on the short excursion to South Africa.

The two former internationals and leading management officials of next year’s tour are using this opportunity to identify any possible weaknesses in the Springbok side and to analyse their new style of play under coach Peter de Villiers.

The 2009 Lions tour looks to be the most meticulously planned yet.

With eight months to go before the tour, the venues and hotels have been inspected, training facilities identified and four of the Boks’ Tests under the new coach will have been watched live.
