Larkham : Best Brumbies performance in years

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham says that his team’s performance in their 19-39
Super Rugby victory over the Stormers at Newlands was one of their best in years.

The Brumbies outclassed the Stormers in all aspects of the game including
the lineouts and the scrums which was where the Stormers were expected to have
the edge.

The Brumbies scored six tries against the Stormers one and the final Brumbies try came when the Canberra side had been reduced to 13 players due to a red and a yellow cards.

The Stormers line out in particular failed to deliver and the Brumbies earned
the only tighthead scrum of the game with two players in the sin-bin.

The Brumbies victory sees them progress to the Super Rugby Semi-finals where
they will face the Hurricanes in Wellington next weekend.

Stephen Larkham said it was a memorable day for his club.

“One of the best performances that we’ve had over the last couple of years,”
Larkham told reporters after the game.

“We were probably a little bit embarrassed with our scrummaging out of
the last game, the round game when we were over here and I thought the boys
turned it around.

“They had a fantastic night in the forward pack tonight both at scrum
time and defensive lineout time I thought we were outstanding.

“It’s a qualifying final played at Newlands and we win by 20 points, it’s
a pretty special day.”

Captain Stephen Moore says the side isn’t too concerned about having to travel
from South Africa to Australia and on to New Zealand within the space of a week,
and is looking forward to the matchup against the Hurricanes.

“Tomorrow we will dust off and get our recovery right,” Moore said.

“That’ll be as big a challenge if not bigger than this was tonight.”

The Brumbies will now travel back to Canberra to prepare for the matchup against
the Hurricanes.
