Injury forces Cheetahs into change for Sharks

Teboho Mohoje looks set to miss the start of the Super Rugby season

The Cheetahs have been forced into making a late change to the team originally named to play the Sharks this weekend due to injury.

Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske confirmed in Tuesday that Oupa Mohoje was being rested in line with SARU’s protocols for resting Springboks and that Tienie Burger would start at 6 against the Sharks.

“We always knew that the Saru regulations with regards to the World Cup later this year would come into play, ” said Drotske.

“That is why Oupa Mohoje is sitting this one out. In his place comes Tienie Burger, who has proven himself coming off the bench and in last year’s Currie Cup. Later we will start the same process with Springboks like Coenie Oosthuizen and Willie le Roux. “

However on Wednesday Tienie Burger was forced to withdraw so Drotske has reinstated Mohoje in the Cheetahs starting line up.

Saru regulations stipulate that no Springbok may play more than five consecutive weeks. The Cheetahs have played three matches so far this season and they have also had a bye so the SARU protocol should not be in danger of being breached.
