Injuries delay Springbok team announcement

The announcement of the Springbok side for the Tri-Nations match against Australia in Johannesburg on Saturday has been deferred until Thursday in the light of the team’s many injuries and the suspension cloud hanging over prop CJ van der Linde.

The team announcement was originally scheduled for Tuesday.

As far as injuries go, Springbok coach Peter de Villiers now awaits clarity on the injuries to captain Victor Matfield (groin) and Bismarck du Plessis (knee) and the fitness or otherwise of Bryan Habana.

If Habana isn’t fit after a hamstring strain sustained against the All Blacks at Newlands, Odwa Ndungane will be recalled in place of JP Pietersen who has a grade one hamstring strain and will not be considered for Saturday’s Test.

Ndungane has already joined the Boks but no decision has been announced regarding other players who may not be available for reasons of injury or suspension.
