Hurricanes beat Highlanders in Dunedin

 Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Dunedin based Highlanders and the Wellington based Hurricanes the Dunedin side have won three and the Wellington side two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

Beauden Barrett kicks off and we are underway. 

2.00: The Hurricanes win the ball back and try to attack but Beauden Barrett loses the ball forward in the tackle. Highlanders win the scrum and kick for touch. 

3.00: The Highlanders win the line out but Aaron Smith kicks the ball out on the full. 

5.00: The Highlanders win a scrum and kick deep for territory. The Hurricanes counter attack but pass the ball into touch. The match has seen five handling errors so far. Hurricanes territory is at 97%

7.00; The Highlander get an intercept pass (Lima Sopoaga) and the ball gets to Ben Smith but he is just caught by the shirt. The Hurricanes concede a penalty at the breakdown so Sopoaga will kick for posts. 

9.00: Sopoaga slots the penalty and the Highlanders lead. 

13.00: The Hurricanes move the ball through the hands and down the line but as they get to 5m out  Nehe Milner-Skudder is tackled and concedes a penalty for not releasing. He got the ball from a great offload from Victor Vito while he sucked in two defenders. The Highlanders kick for touch win the line out and run the ball. 

16.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes for not releasing. Barrett misses the penalty. A fairly easy one. 

17.00: The Hurricanes win another penalty. Barrett kicks for touch. 

18.00: The Hurricanes push the Highlanders back into their 22 but the Highlanders defend on their 5m line until they concede a penalty. The Hurricanes kick for touch and the line out. 

19.00: Hurricanes win the line out and drive over the line but are held up. 5m scrum.

21.00: The Hurricanes win the scrum – TJ Perenara snipes for the line but is caught. Brad Shields has another go. The ball is turned over and kicked into touch. 

22.00: The Highlanders win a free kick from the scrum so they kick for touch. 

23.00: The Hurricanes win the line out and build up their attack again. They win a penalty but go for the line out and overthrow it. 

26.00: Penalty to Highlanders from the breakdown. They kick for touch. 

28.00: Highlanders on the attack. They get to about 10m out lose the ball so the Hurricanes kick deep. The Highlanders counter attack.

29.00: The Highlanders get to the 5m line and Malakai Fekitoa snipes for the line. We will go to the TMO to check. No try as Ben Smith held Brad Shields back. Penalty to the Hurricanes. 

30.00: The Hurricanes win the line out and kick. The Highlanders counter attack and then kick. The Hurricanes kick deep and Sopoaga gets back to boot the ball into touch. 

32.00: Scrum Hurricanes after the HIghlanders win a lineout but knock on. 

33.00:There is a break in play and then the game resumes with a line out. The Hurricanes win a penalty for playing the man in the air. Barrett will kick for posts. 

34.00: Barrett takes the penalty kick and this one he nails to level the scores. 

37.00: Penalty to the Highlanders – collapsing the scrum. Sopoaga will take the kick. 

38.00: Lima Sopoaga takes the kick but misses. 

40.03: As the siren sounds the Highlanders are on the attack but it comes to nothing so the whistle goes. Its half time.

Lima Sopoaga kicks off and we are underway with the second half. 

43.00: The Highlanders win an early penalty. Sopoaga takes the kick but misses. 

46.00: The Hurricanes win a penalty – Nasi Manu taking out Conrad Smith without the ball. Barrett kicks for touch. 

47.00: the Hurricanes win the line out and work the ball tirelessly towards the line but the Highlanders defence is outstanding. 

48.00: Eventually the Highlanders defence creaks and Reggie Goodes slips over. TRY!

49.00: Barrett stabs the conversion over as Ardie Savea comes off holding his forearm looking like he is in a lot of pain. Blade Thomson comes on. 

53.00: The Hurricanes go on the attack again and the Highlanders concede another penalty. Offside at the ruck – Aaron Smith. Barrett will kick for posts. 

54.00: Barrett takes the shot but its wide. 

56.00: TJ Perenara makes a break but loses the ball. Aaron Smith gets the ball and the Highlanders get the ball out of their 22 but then they concede a penalty. 

58.00: Beauden Barrett takes the kick and nails it. 

61.00: The Hurricanes are caught offside so the Highlanders have a penalty. Lima Sopoaga takes the kick and nails it. 

64.00: The Hurricanes make a mess of their line out and the Highlanders attack. They get the ball into the Hurricanes 22 and win a penalty. They take the tap and run it. The Highlanders play it too quickly and knock on. 

68.00: Its all the Highlanders on attack. They go through phase after phase punching away at the Hurricanes in their 22. 

69.00: Penalty to the Highlanders for tackler not releasing after 13 phases. They choose against kicking for posts. 

71.00: The Highlanders are dominating the attack putting the Canes under huge pressure. 

72.00: A big tackle from Ma’a Nonu turns the ball over to the Hurricanes and they counter attack. They work the ball to the line and after several phases TJ Perenara scores. TRY! 

73.00: Barrett stabs the conversion over again. 

75.00: Partick Osborne attacks for the Highlanders and they go over but aree held up.  

77.00: Julian Savea is yellow carded and the Highlanders get a penalty.  Lima Sopoaga slips through a gap and scores. TRY! 

78.00: Sopoaga slots the conversion. 

79.00: Malakai Fekitoa makes a break and leaves most of the Hurricanes standing. He is caught and as the Highlanders move the ball to the other side there is a forward pass.

80.00: The Hurricanes win the scrum and kick the ball into touch.,

The Hurricanes have won.
