Toulon’s owner Mourad Boudjellal says that Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny could sign a new contract with English Club Wasps rather than return to Wales.
Halfpenny’s contract with European Rugby champions Toulon at the end of the season and he has been linked to a move back Wales with either the Scarlets or his former club Cardiff Blues.
The British and Irish Lion’s former Cardiff coach Dai Young is now in charge of Wasps and Boudjellal says that they are in the lead to sign Halfpenny if he does not stay on with Toulon.
“If we have no contract agreed with Leigh in the next week for next season, I think he will be going to Wasps,” Boudjellal told The Rugby Paper.
“We are speaking to Leigh and his agent. He has a good proposition from teams in England with Wasps the main one.
“We would like him to stay.”
“I don’t know whether he will because in France we have some problems with the salary cap. We hope to have some information in the next week.”
