Goromaru confirms Toulon signing

Japanese International star Ayumu Goromaru has confirmed that his time in Super Rugby has come to an end by announcing that he has signed for French Club Toulon.

Goromaru shot to fame in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and was quickly signed up by the Reds for the 2016 Super Rugby season possibly with an option for 2017.

The Japanese fullback struggled for game time with the Reds and was only able to hold on to a starting place whilst Karmichael Hunt was injured and on the sidelines.

However Goromaru’s spell of starts for the Reds was cut short when he was injured playing in Brisbane against Japanese Super Rugby side the Sunwolves.

The injury ended his Super Rugby season early and occurred in the 57th minute of the game as Goromaru attempted to prevent a try by Sunwolves flanker Liaki Moli.

Goromaru had surgery on his shoulder to repair damage to the AC joint separation and is now in the recovery stage.

Speaking on his blog Goromaru said that his next big challenge was to recover from the injury before he can join Toulon in August.

Goromaru’s Japanese club Yamaha Jubilo have also announced that  his contract has been terminated and he will not be returning to Japan to play Top League rugby at the end of the year.

Toulon have confirmed the signing in statement which says Goromaru has signed a one-year contract with an option for a second year.
