England offer Saracens coach Gustard assistant’s job

Paul Gustard could be moving to Twickenham next week

England head coach Eddie Jones and the RFU have approached Saracens and offer defence and forwards coach Paul Gustard a position with the national team.

Saracens head coach Mark McCall confirmed the job offer from the Rugby Football Union and said that the 39-year-old Gustard was considering the offer.

“Paul has been made an offer to become an assistant coach with England,” said McCall after Saracens 10-45 victory over Oyonnax in France.

“He is considering the offer and I’m sure there will be some dealings between the RFU and ourselves over the next 24-48 hours. When there is anything more to add we will announce in due course.”

Jones started his position with the RFU as England coach earlier this month and has agreed a four year position which will see him taking England to the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Jones has just under two months to get his coaching assistants and back room staff settled in as England begin their Six Nations campaign on the sixth of February.

The current England assistants Andy Farrell, Graham Rowntree and Mike Catt are all expected to lose their jobs in the coming week.
