England’s Rugby Football Union have Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt at the top of their list to replace current head coach Stuart Lancaster.
While the RFU have yet to confirm any existence of a list reports have surfaced stating that the RFU are willing to pay £1.5 million to secure Schmidt.
The reports came to light on Sunday after Ireland had been knocked out of the Rugby World Cup at the quarter final stage following two successive Six Nations titles.
While the RFU might be interested in signing Schmidt it seems that he is unlikely to be moving across the Irish sea in the near future.
Schmidt was signed by the Irish Rugby Union with a view to improving on past results at the World cup at the 2015 and 2019 World Cup.
The Ireland coach was asked about the reports on Sunday and he denied that he was interested in Lancaster’s job.
The timing appears to be a little off for the RFU to be making moves to replace Lancaster as only yesterday the RFU named a five man panel to review their world cup.
