Launchbury injury could see Itoje start for England

England head coach Eddie Jones has called up Northampton Saints’ Courtney Lawes as an injury replacement for Joe Launchbury in the Six Nations.

Launchbury was expected to play against Ireland in the Six Nations at Twickenham this weekend but he has now been withdrawn.

Wasps’ Launchbury met with the England medical staff on Wednesday where it was decided that he was unfit to play and would return to his Premiership club for further treatment on a hamstring injury.

The injury replacement opens up the chances of Saracens Maro Itoje coming into the starting line up after impressing off the bench against Italy.
