Ella : Ford and Farrell can become legends

Owen Farrell (L) and George Ford can become rugby legends

Former Wallabies fullback Glen Ella says that England’s midfield pairing George Ford and Owen Farrell can develop into “legends of the game” of Rugby.

Ella is working with England while they tour Australia as a skills coach and he says that the pair will make history.

“They will both go on Lions tours and win World Cups. That’s how confident I am in these guys,” Ella told BBC Sport.

“They are great players now – they could be legends of the game in 10 years’ time,” added the former Wallaby.

The England team are on the edge of making history as a win this week or next week will win them the series – something that no other England team has achieved.

England beat Australia 28-39 in the first Test last week in Brisbane and head coach Eddie Jones has named 23-year-old Ford to start at 10 and Farrell at inside centre  – as they played for most of the match last week.

Ella won four caps for Australia 1982 and 1985 but he says he is determined to make England win th series against his home country.

Speaking to the BBC’s rugby correspondent Ian Robertson, he added: “I am Australian, but I’m with England and proud of that.”

“I’ve found it really easy to assimilate with the guys, they have welcomed me.”

“We are all here for the same purpose – we want to win and kick the Wallabies up the backside. I’m not here to help Australia, I’m here to make sure we win this series 3-0.

“While we are happy to have won the first Test, we haven’t won the series. That’s what Eddie and the coaches are driving into the players – we want a clean sweep.”
