Crusaders beat Cheetahs in Christchurch

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Christchurch based Crusaders and the Bloemfontein based Cheetahs the Crusaders have won just three.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Crusaders kick off and we are underway. 

2.00: The Cheetahs knock on after the kick off so we have a scrum. The scrum collapses a couple of times and then Coenie Oosthuisen collapses so the Crusaders have a penalty. 

3.00: Crusaders kick for touch and win the line out. They move the ball wide but get stopped by the Cheetahs defence 5m out and knock on. 

4.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty from the scrum so Joe Pietersen kicks for touch to clear but doesnt find it. Nemani Nadolo has a run but is caught. The Crusaders change sides and kick for the corner but its too big and goes into touch. 

6.00: A bit of a kicking contest follows and Kieron Fonotia connects with Willie le Roux in the air. Le Roux goes down and lands flat on his back.  Fonotia is shown a yellow card for the act. Cheetahs kick for touch. 

8.00: The Crusaders come away with the ball at the line out and run at the Cheetahs. They get to the half way line and the Crusaders win a penalty. They kick for touch. 

11.00: the Crusaders win the line out and they win another penalty from a scrum after a knock on. They choose the line out.

12.00: The Cheetahs defend the Crusaders attack after the line out and win a turnover so they get the scrum put in – in their 22. 

13.00: Penalty to the Crusaders from the scrum The hand bags come out and everyone runs in to join in. 

14.00: Carter will kick for posts. He misses so still no points. 

17.00: Cheetahs scrum collapses. The Crusaders win another penalty. They kick for touch. Fonotia comes back on. 

18.00; Crusaders win the line out and use the maul but it goes nowhere. They use the pick and go. 

19.00: The Crusaders pick and go, pick and go and  Jordan Taufua goes over. We go to the TMO to check. It’s a TRY !

19.00;Carter slots the conversion. 

23.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs. Joe Pietersen takes the kick but he misses. 

25.00: Nemani Nadolo is starting to find his feet. He goes on a crashing run which sees the Crusaders move the ball from one side to the other and then Jordan Taufau is shoved into touch on the other side. 

26.00: The Cheetahs win the line out and Du Plessis kicks for touch.

28.00: The Crusaders win the line out and attack. However the passing is messy and Francois Venter picks up a loose ball and races for the line to score. TRY!  

30.00: Pietersen slots the conversion and the scores are level. 

32.00: The Cheetahs break out after a line out and Rhule gets them into the 22 and Johann Sadie goes over to score. TRY! 

33.00: Joe Pietersen takes the conversion from outwide and nails it. Cheetahs lead while the Crusaders have done most of the playing. 

35.00: The Crusaders concede a penalty (Nadolo) so the Cheetahs kick for touch. The Crusaders win the line out and Nadolo kicks for touch but doesnt find it. 

36.00: The ball changes sides couple of times as they run and kick but then the Crusaders run it and put a foot into touch. 

38.00: The Crusaders work the ball into the Cheetahs 22. They drive over the line but are called back for an earlier penalty. Carter will kick for posts. 

39.00: Carter slots the penalty as the siren sounds. 

Its half time. 

The half time score was Crusaders 10 Cheetahs 14

40.01: The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway with the second half. 

41.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty as Willie le Roux is “just” touched in the air. They kick for touch, win the line out and use the maul but knock on. 

43.00: Another scrum and another penalty to the Crusaders. They kick for touch. They win  the line out and run at the Cheetahs. 

44.00: The Crusaders work the ball through the hands and then Dagg slops the ball out – and into touch. 

46.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs – tackler not releasing. They kick for touch. 

47.00: The Crusaders pick up a loose ball and the Crusaders race down the wing passing through the hands. The ball goes into touch as the Cheetahs somehow get out of jail.

47.00; The Cheetahs win the line out and kick for touch. They don’t find it and the Crusaders counter attack. Nadolo almost gets to the line and so so Sam Whitelock but we go back for a penalty. We go to the TMO though as Willie le Roux tackled Nadolo high around the neck. No penalty try but a yellow for Du Plessis. Crusaders scrum. 

49.00: The scrum has to be reset and goes again. Penalty try to the Crusaders. 

52.00: Carter adds the conversion. The Cheetahs get a warning for their scrum. 

53.00: The Crusaders slip through the Cheetahs defence and and they pass the ball through the hands and it  ends with Dagg going over to score. TRY! 

53.00: Carter slots the conversion. 

54.00: The Crusaders have opened up the Cheetahs again. Dan Carter slips through and scores the bonus point TRY! 

55.00: Carter adds the conversion. 

56.00: The Crusaders are in again. They kick the ball ahead and Nadolo chases a grubber and scores. TRY!

58.00: Carter adds the conversion. 

59.00: The Crusaders are a completely different side now. They are throwing the ball around with ease and the Cheetahs are scrambling everywhere. Le Roux comes back on. The Crusaders win a line out and use the maul but they are pushed into touch. 

64.00: Kieran Read comes off for the Crusaders as they have another scrum on the 5m line. 

67.00: Several scrum resets. Could be danger again for the Cheetahs. 

68.00: Penalty to the Crusaders and Coenie Oosthuizen is yellow carded. We have another scrum. 

69.00: The Crusaders win the scrum and break for the line. After a couple of picks and go Jordan Taufua goes over for his second TRY!

70.00: Carter misses the conversion. 

74.00: The Crusaders continue to attack the Cheetahs and they get to the 5m line but knock on. 

75.00: The Crusaders continue to test the Cheetahs and David Havili slips through for his debut Super Rugby TRY! 

76.00: Carter adds the conversion. 

77.00: Dan Carter splits the Cheetahs after a mix up in the Cheetahs backlin and he races for the line to score his second TRY !

78.00: Carter adds the conversion. 

79.20 : There is a break in play as Oupa Mohoje is down injured. The medical buggy is out there and takes him off. The game resumes. 

The Crusaders have the ball. The Cheetahs turn the ball over as the siren sounds. The Crusaders turn the ball over and chip it into touch. 

That’s it. Full time. Crusaders win.
