Carter, Mann-Rea and Fardy committ to Brumbies

Canberra based Super Rugby franchise the Brumbies have announced that Sam Carter, Josh Mann-Rea and Scott Fardy for two more seasons of Super Rugby.

The extension keeps the bulk of the Brumbies forward pack’s elder statesmen on deck long-term, with the likes of Stephen Moore also signed up past the end of the 2015 season.

All three Wallabies have risen through the ranks to be amongst Australia’s best in their chosen positions while playing with the Brumbies.

For Fardy and Mann-Rea, this is another chapter in two of Australian rugby’s great redemption stories.

Both scallywags in their younger years, the pair had all-but given up on Super Rugby in 2010. But last-chance cracks with the Brumbies have provided the two players with lifelines and both have since played through Super Rugby Finals Series, Rugby Championships, Spring Tours and Bledisloe Cups.

Fardy said he was pleased to have his playing future sorted so he could get on with the job.

“I’m really pleased to have extended my contract, this is my third extension since I arrived here in 2012 and each time I’ve been really clear in wanting to stay and get things done with the Brumbies,” Fardy said.

“We’ve developed quite a tight group here in Canberra both on and off the field. I enjoy the community feel Canberra offers and it’s exciting for me to be given an opportunity to stay and progress my career here.”

Mann-Rea echoed Fardy’s sentiments.

“It took me a while to find my groove as a professional rugby player, certainly there had been a few false starts. But I don’t think I could have made the sustained progress I have had it not been for my time in Canberra,” Mann-Rea said.

“There are plenty of things to consider when your contract comes up but my priority was always to stay in Canberra with the Brumbies. My family has settled in here and we are pleased to be staying around.”

Like his Brumbies teammates, Carter has also enjoyed a rise to the top of Australian rugby off the back of his work with the Brumbies. Selected to start at lock against France during the first June Test in 2014, Carter was named man of the match and subsequently featured though the tail end of the Rugby Championship and into the Wallabies Spring Tour.

“The Brumbies gave me an opportunity from Sydney Uni a few years back so it’s nice for me to be able to stay and repay some of that faith, Carter said.

“All of my progress has been made in Canberra under the Brumbies programs and systems and I’m fully expecting to become a better player here over the next two years.”
