Bok prop Oosthuizen to miss Rugby World Cup

Versatile Springboks prop Coenie Oosthuizen is almost certain to miss the Rugby
Championship and the Rugby World Cup due to injury.

Twenty-six-year-old Oosthuizen had surgery on his neck last week and the operation
means that he stands little chance of playing again this season.

Oosthuizen was named in Heyneke Meyer’s 49-man Springbok squad but did no join
the rest of the squad in Johannesburg this week.

While it’s almost certain that the prop will miss the World cup the surgery
will most likely extend his career.

“At the end of the day, a player needs to take care of his own interests,”
Bok team doctor Craig Roberts told Netwerk24.

“Coenie visited a very competent specialist and we decided he should
make sure of his future in rugby. ”

“He will probably give up his dream to play in the World Cup this year,
but at least he’ll be able to keep on playing.”

Oosthuizen made his international debut for South Africa in 2012 but injured
his neck in the same year and then injured it again in 2014.
