Argentina lock Mariano Galarza will miss the rest of the 2015 Rugby World Cup after he was slapped with a nine week ban for eye gouging.
Galarza was found guilty of “with the eye or eye area” of New Zealand All Black Brodie Retallick.
Twenty-eight-year-old Galarza was found to have acted “contrary to good sportsmanship”.
The suspension was originally for 13 weeks but was reduced by the judicial officer for Galarza’s “excellent disciplinary record”.
Galarza plays for Gloucester and has 48 hours to appeal.
He is the second player to be suspended after Dominiko Waqaniburotu was given a one-week ban for a tip tackle on England wing Jonny May.
Galarza has been replaced in the Argentina squad for their next Pool C match against Georgia by Javier Ortega Desio.
