All Black Woodcock ruled out of Rugby World Cup

The All Blacks have suffered their first blow in the Rugby World Cup ahead of the quarter finals as experienced prop Tony Woodcock has been ruled out for the tournament.

Rugby World Cup winning prop Woodcock tore his right hamstring muscle and will not play again in the world cup and has already announced that he would retire after the tournament.

Woodcock has played 118 times for New Zealand and suffered the injury in Friday’s 47-9 win over Tonga in their last Pool C match.

“It’s not a great way for a great player to play his last test match if he’s going to retire, so it is disappointing for him,” New Zealand coach Steve Hansen told AP.

“But sport’s like that, it can be quite cruel.”

“He’s an unsung hero,” Hansen said. “Woody just got better and better, and he’s been a great player. He’s a very mobile footballer and a skilled rugby player. ”

“He can reflect on his career at some point when he’s ready to do that with a lot of satisfaction, and New Zealanders can be very proud of him.”

Hansen has called up 27-year-old Joe Moody as replacement for Woodcock.
