Bath give Borthwick the chop

Bath Rugby have confirmed that Steve Borthwick has been stood down as club captain.

Borthwick, 28, confirmed last week that he will be leaving The Rec this summer after 10 years to join Saracens on a four-year contract.

Head coach Steve Meehan, meanwhile, is already weighing up the club’s options regarding a replacement for the departing Borthwick.

He is sifting through more than a dozen expressions of interest from second rows all over the world who are keen to be considered candidates to take Borthwick’s place in the Bath squad.

But he appears to be in no hurry to name a new club captain, with Zak Feaunati, Andy Beattie, Shaun Beattie and Alex Crockett all capable of taking the on-field leadership, if necessary, between now and the end of the season.
