Coaches see Northampton match differently

One eyed fans often see a different match to the match that we all see but it’s not that often that coaches of opposing teams see a very different match to the one that their teams had just played in.

This unusual situation came about this weekend when Northampton Saints boss Jim Mallinder hailed his pack’s performance in the 15-3 win at Cornish Pirates as the best of the season

Director of rugby Mallinder saw his pack demolish their Pirates rivals at Camborne. After the match Mallinder told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo: “The scrummage was very impressive, we really took them apart in the scrum. “It was really dominant. It is a pack effort, it did really well.”

And then opposing head coach Jim McKay refused to give them any credit and said “I think the forwards cancelled each other out, I don’t think either team established their authority.

“We got beaten by a better side, but two defensive errors cost us two tries.

“We couldn’t get over the line with all the possession we had in the second half, they pretty much cancelled us out there.”
