Turinui to miss Tahu mid-field clash

Queensland recruit Morgan Turinui who left the Waratahs last season to try and regain his Test jersey is facing a clash or priorities for the Reds v Waratahs Australia Day trial match.

The game will be remembered for being the debut of NSW recruit Timana Tahu and possibly for being Turinui’s Reds debut.

Turinui and Tahu will both play centre but they may miss each because Turinui is set to become a father on that day.

“Morgan I don’t think will play, his wife is due to give birth that day,” Reds coach Phil Mooney told the Daily Telegraph.

NSW coach Ewen McKenzie is confident that Tahu would be fit to face the Reds after recently training in a separate group from most of his team mates, due to some hamstring niggles.

“He’s still doing bits and pieces, he’s sort of isolated, he’s about one of about four or five blokes that have been out of the mainstream, coming back in on Monday,” McKenzie said and added that he had not decided how much time Tahu would play in the three trials and if he would also get a run at inside centre.

“That’s still a couple of weeks to the first game.”

So it looks like the long awaited centre field clash will have to wait a little longer.
