All Blacks centre Luke McAlister enjoyed a try-scoring European debut on Thursday to help Sale beat Bayonne 32-10 in the Challenge Cup.
McAlister has returned to northern England where he spent nine years of his childhood.
His father Charlie played rugby league for Oldham while McAlister became a schoolboy footballer with Manchester United, fine-tuning his skills in the Old Trafford club’s academy.

McAlister scored one try to add to a brace from Spain wing Oriol Ripol and one from France full back Julien Laharrague.
