Lam wants Crusaders job

While the world waits to see if Robbie Deans if appointed as Wallaby coach, behind the scenes the NZRU have yet to announce their decision on whether they will allow him to continue coaching the Crusaders next year should he get the Wallabies job.

If he’s not allowed to coach the Crusaders Auckland coach Pat Lam reportedly wants his job. Under Lam Auckland has won two NPC titles and he says he is ready to coach at the next level.

Other contenders for the Crusaders job could be the likes of Mark Hammett and Todd Blackadder.

The twist in this story is that Deans and Lam are closer than originally thought and Lam revealed to TV3 News on Thursday night that Deans contacted him before Henry was appointed as All Blacks coach to ask if Lam would would be available to fulfil the assistant role if Deans was appointed.

The 39-year-old also told TV3  that he had been offered big money by European clubs but he told them that he would rather stay in New Zealand and make the step up to Super 14.
