Carter eyes European move

The All Blacks biggest star Dan Carter has dropped his strongest hint yet that he may be set for a move to the Guinness Premiership or the Heinken Cup.

The Crusaders fly-half has one year left on his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union but cannot rule out moving north when it expires.

“I really enjoy playing over here, they are great crowds, great people, so I think it’s something I am going to have to have a good think about and see where I want my career to head.” Carter told Sky Sports News.

Carter’s popularity is only challenged by captain Richie McCaw in the All Black’s both of whom played in nearly every match for the All Black’s while coach Henry was experimenting with two squads in preparation for the World cup.

Carter, 25, has been capped 44 times by the All Blacks and was voted the 2005 IRB Player of the Year.

The favourable currencies in the Northern Hemisphere tempted a large number of All Blacks stars who quit New Zealand for the Guinness Premiership, including Luke McAlister who makes his first start for Sale this weekend while Carl Hayman has left for Newcastle and Greg Rawlinson and Rico Gear now play for Worcester.

New Zealand have a policy of not selecting players for the All Blacks who are playing abroad in order to try and keep the strength of their squad at it’s peak.

Whilst Carter has been the first choice No.10 for the All Blacks for some time but Nick Evans had an impressive world cup and has just moved to Auckland to play for the Blues after spending four years with the Highlanders.
