Giteau back for Brumbies

Brumbies head coach Laurie Fisher has today named his team for Sunday night’s Tooheys New Super 14 showdown with the Waratahs.

The Brumbies and Waratahs will continue their close rivalry under lights at Aussie Stadium in a special Easter Sunday clash to conclude Week Ten of the 2006 season.

95-cap veteran Bill Young returns to loosehead prop after starting last week’sresounding victory over the Cheetahs on the reserves bench, while fellow Wallaby Nic Henderson is rotated to the bench.

The only other change to the Brumbies’ victorious Week 9 team comes on the reserves bench, where James McCormack returns to the back-up hooking role after sitting out last Saturday’s match with flu.

Fisher said that his team was in a good position heading into matches against tough opposition.

“We’ve been able to maintain a fairly consistent lineup week in, week out, which has helped us keep some continuity,” he said.

“The team performed very well against the Cheetahs but we know we’re in for a very tough game against the Waratahs, who are probably playing better than they were last year when they made the Final.”

“The Waratahs are the first top four team we’ve come across this season so it will give us a good indication of how well we’re going at this point in the season,” he said.

Matt Giteau will play with padding on his injured right knee after receiving a further knock during last week’s victory over the Cheetahs.

Giteau completed his first training session for the week this morning after being rested from training throughout the week.

“I didn’t do a great deal of contact today but I got through plenty of running and a bit of defence so I’m quite confident that I’ll get through the whole 80 minutes on Sunday,” said Giteau.

“It doesn’t affect me running as such, it’s just when I get a knock on it, it tends to swell up and cause some problems. The padding should take care of that,” he said.
