Tuitupou ready for Warriors

Worcester’s summer signing Sam Tuitupou is targeting a belated December debut after successfully having surgery on a broken wrist.

The All Blacks centre, who has been capped nine times, has agreed a three-year deal at Sixways back in April – however he sustained a fractured left distal radius during Auckland’s Air New Zealand Cup final victory against Wellington.

However, following an operation by top New Zealand hand surgeon Chris Taylor, Tuitupou is now on course to appear for the Warriors before Christmas.

Tuitupou has been unable to fly over to England because of the injury – with fears over swelling and complications while he is in plaster – but plans are now in place for his arrival.

“We have been in constant contact with the medical team in New Zealand and it is all under control,” said Worcester’s director of sports medicine Brian Downey to the the club’s official site.

“We have spoken to the surgeon about his post operation rehabilitation and are confident he can return to action in December.

“Sam remains excited about his move to Sixways and has spoken to us of his desire to make the journey as soon as possible to join up with his new team-mates and continue his return to full fitness at Warriors.”

Director of rugby Mike Ruddock added: “We’re disappointed at Sam’s injury. I spoke to him the week before the Air New Zealand Cup final and he was incredibly enthusiastic about his move to Warriors, it’s just a shame that it’s been delayed a few weeks.

“However, we look forward to welcoming all our new signings in Sam, Greg Rawlinson and Rico Gear in the coming month. All have spoken of their excitement about the move and making a big impact at Warriors.”
