2009 British Lions Schedule Confirmed

SA Rugby have confirmed that the British & Irish Lions will play 10 matches on their tour of South Africa in 2009 including three test matches against the Springboks.

It is believed that these three tests will be played consecutive Saturdays (probably the 27th June, 4th and 11th July 2009) in the cities of Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban although it must be said that this bit is conjecture so don’t start booking your flights just yet.

The confirmation of seven provincial matches to be played on the tour seems to indicate that the structure of the 2005 will not be exactly repeated with 6 matches being played before the first test and one midweek match between the first and second tests.

It is also unconfirmed at this stage whether the Lions will play a match on home soil before departing for South Africa as they did against the Puma’s ahead of the tour to New Zealand.
