Gibson adds grunt to Glasgow

Glasgow Warriors have signed former All Black centre Daryl Gibson on a two-year deal, as confirmed by the Magners league team on Monday.

Gibson has joined from Guinness Premiership club Leicester Tigers where he was vice-captain, and where he made 90 appearances over four seasons, scoring 15 tries.

He gained 19 New Zealand caps following his debut against Samoa in Albany in June 1999, the same year he made his only appearance against Scotland for the All Blacks. He did however also appear in all five games for the New Zealand Maori on their 1998 tour of Scotland.

He made a team record 78 appearances for the Crusaders in Super 12 rugby from 1996-2002, scoring 14 tries and gaining four winners medals in 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2002.

He also played 80 matches for Canterbury following his debut in June 1993, claiming 35 tries and winning the New Zealand Provincial Championship with them in 1997 and 2001.

“I am very excited about what Daryl will bring to the Warriors both on and off the field,” said Glasgow head coach Sean Lineen.

“He will bring a level of experience and professionalism which can only move us forward in what will be a challenging season. He is also not a bad rugby player!”
