Glasgow appoint new Chief Executive

Ian Riddoch has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive of the Glasgow Warriors on a permanent basis, having joined the Warriors as interim General Manager in mid-June.

Riddoch has been working since then to ensure the Warriors’ move to Firhill and other pre-season work went smoothly, and has gained the position with everything in place.

“This is a very exciting time for the Glasgow Warriors and I’m looking forward to being a part of it,” he said on Wednesday.

“With a strong squad doing the business on the pitch, and a vibrant match-day atmosphere off the pitch, I’m confident that this club will have a bright future.”

Formerly the Commercial Director for Edinburgh Rugby Ltd, Riddoch will now be based at the Warriors’ new offices at Firhill.

The announcement follows Scottish Rugby’s decision in March to channel more of its resources into Glasgow Warriors and also empower the pro-team with locally based management with greater autonomy, a decision which led to the disbandment of the Border franchise.

Riddoch has over 19 years of experience in the commercial sector, predominantly in sports businesses, having worked in rugby union, rugby league, football and for several sports event and title sponsors.

Prior to his spell with Edinburgh Rugby, the 40 year old Aberdonian was Head of Sales and Marketing for Aberdeen FC for five years and has also worked in marketing for both Wigan Warriors RLFC and Super League (Europe) Ltd.
