Jean de Villiers wants to play in Japan

Springbok and Stormers captain Jean de Villiers has revealed that he wants to play a season in Japan after the Rugby World Cup and then return to Cape Town and play for the Stormers.

Thirty-four-year-old De Villiers has missed the whole of the 2015 Super Rugby season after he dislocated his knee in the Springboks final Test of 2014 – against Wales.

The Stormers and Springbok centre has spent the last seven months working his way back to fitness so that he can return in time to play for South Africa at the Rugby World Cup.

While De Villiers is nearing his return to playing rugby he says that he did not go through months of rehabilitation just to play at the World Cup.

“I didn’t go through 10 months of rehabilitation just to play 10 more games,” De Villiers told Netwerk24.

“Hopefully I could go and play overseas after the World Cup, preferably in Japan, and then return to spend another season with the Stormers.”

“Having said that, nobody probably wants a 34-year-old with a crocked knee,” he joked.

De Villiers played one season for Munster between 2009 and 2010 and then returned to South Africa.
