Elliot commits to the Chiefs for two more seasons

Ahead of his 100th Super Rugby match Hamilton based Super Rugby hooker Hika Elliot has re-signed with the Chiefs for another two Super Rugby seasons.

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has expressed his delight that another key player has re-committed to the Chiefs Rugby Club.

“Hika is in the form of his life and is a highly influential part of our culture. The experience, skill, leadership and passion he brings to our club is hugely valuable, ” stated Rennie.

The highly mobile hooker, who came back from a potential career-ending neck injury has been impressive for the Chiefs this year both on and off the field, earning the Chiefs highest honour this year. Elliot was presented with the prestigious Chiefs Mana Kotiate Award for his contribution to the community and the team.

Elliot has been heavily involved with many charities including MATES which is a group that supports men going through challenging times and is passionate about helping youth. The talented musician is fluent in Te Reo (Maori language) and is an inspiring public speaker.

The former All Black who has been in top form said, “I have unfinished business in New Zealand. The enjoyment of my rugby has gone up another level and I think that is because after my injury I have a new appreciation for how lucky I am to be in this sport. “

“My body feels like it did when I was 20 years-old and I just want to do the best I can for my family, team and community, ” said the 29 year-old.

Elliot has played 87 matches for the Chiefs having made his Super Rugby debut in 2008 against the Waratahs for the Hurricanes.

Elliot, who has won two Super Rugby titles, has represented the All Blacks, Maori All Blacks, New Zealand Under-21 and is an Under-19 World Championship winner. He also captained the New Zealand Schools side.
