Nepo Laulala has been ruled out for the 2016 Super Rugby season

Hamilton Super Rugby franchise the Chiefs have signed 23 year-old Crusaders tight-head prop Nepo Laulala for the next two years of Super Rugby.

At 1.84m and 116 kg, the young prop’s ITM Cup and Super Rugby form had caught the attention of the Chiefs.

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie said, “Nepo is a powerful and explosive tight-head who has made a big impression over the past couple of seasons. He’s a good man with high aspirations who we believe will make a positive contribution in our environment.”

Laulala attended high school at Wesley College in South Auckland and was part of the high school First XV side. He joined the Canterbury Academy and made his first appearance for their ITM Cup side in 2011.

The Samoan born prop says “The move to the Chiefs will enable me to be closer to my family. I have really enjoyed my time at the Crusaders but am excited by my new opportunity at the Chiefs.”

Laulala has played 33 games for the Crusaders, having made his Super Rugby debut in 2013.

Laulala will continue to play his 2015 ITM Cup for Canterbury and move to Hamilton at the conclusion of his ITM Cup commitments.

He is the younger brother of former All Black Casey Laulala.
