Western Force and Wallabies forward Ben McCalman has been ruled out of the Perth franchise’s final match of the Super Rugby season and is in doubt for the Rugby Championship.
The Wallabies No.8 fractured his cheekbone playing in the Force’s 20-33 loss to the Brumbies in Perth on Friday and has been ruled out of this week’s clash against the Rebels.
Last week McCalman signed a new flexible contract with the Force which will keep him playing for the Force until the end of the 2018 season.
McCalman’s contract also allows him to play in Japan during the off-season.
While McCalman is in doubt for the Rugby Championship his coach Michael Foley is optimistic that he will recover in time for play at the world cup.
“He will be impacted going into the first part of the international season, but certainly not overall and certainly not into the World Cup,” he told Seven West media.
