Sharks lose Steyn and Lewies for the season

The Sharks have suffered another blow as Stephan Lewies and Frans Steyn will both miss the rest of the Super Rugby season due to injury.

Sharks Director of Rugby Gary Gold has revealed that lock Lewies and utility back Steyn will both have surgery that will rule them out for an extended period.

The Sharks duo suffered their injuries playing in Brisbane last week against the Reds.

“Unfortunately it looks like they’re both going to be out with some long term injuries,” Gold told Sport24.

“Stephan has ruptured his patella tendon, and Fransie has torn his pectoral muscle. It looks like both will need surgery so that is very disappointing for us.”

It is still unclear whether either play will be available for selection by the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup.
