Crusaders beat Hurricanes in Nelson

Out of the last six Super Rugby matches between the Christchurch based Crusaders and the Wellington based Hurricanes the Crusaders have won just one match.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Hurricanes kick off  (Otere Black) and we are underway. 

1.00: The Crusaders show signs that they want to run the ball early on. The ball is kicked high but gets knocked on by the Crusaders. 

2.00: The Crusaders botch a line out in their 22 giving the Hurricanes attacking ball. 

3.00: The Hurricanes attack the Crusaders but they are held out on the wing and then the Crusaders turn the ball over and kick for touch. 

4.00: The Hurricanes botch their line out and the Crusaders run the ball out of their 22 but then have to kick. The Hurricanes kick the ball back and the Crusaders dot it down behind the try line for a 22 drop out. 

6.00:Owen Franks is caught offside so the Hurricanes get an advantage. The Hurricanes show good hands as they move the ball from side to side until they get the ball out to Julian Savea but he drops the ball 5m out.  

8.00; The Crusaders win the ball from a botched Hurricanes line out. They work the ball up to the Hurricanes 5m line and they win a penalty. Tackler not releasing. Carter will kick for posts.

10.00: Dan Carter slots the conversion and the Crusaders lead. 

14.00: The Crusaders are dominating possession but the Hurricanes defence is still strong. 

15.00: The Crusaders get the ball to Nemani Nadolo who shoves off Nehe Milner-Skudder but is then caught. The Crusaders go from side to side but the Hurricanes defence keeps them out of their 22. Penalty to the Crusaders. 

16.00: Dan Carter line up the penalty kick. He nails it. 

19.00: The Hurricanes win a penalty back so Otere Black takes the shot and nails it. 

21.00: The Crusaders get a penalty back after the restart. Carter lines up and slots the kick. 

24.00: Crusaders put the Hurricanes under pressure in their 22 but then they concede a penalty. The Hurricanes kick for touch. 

25.00: The Crusaders come away with the ball after the line out and they go wide to Nadolo. He gets the ball out to Nafi Tuitavake who passes out to Mitchell Drummond who scores. TRY! Try was created by Nadolo’s run. 

26.00; Carter takes the conversion kick from out wide and curls it in. 

30.00: The line outs are a real mess in this. The Crusaders win the ball and Nadolo races down the wing. He knocks on. We go to the TMO as Robbie Fruean has “carelessly tackled” Nehe Milner Skudder. He is shown a yellow card. Milner-Skudder landed awkwardly so the card call is harsh. 

31.00:The Crusaders win the line out but then knock on. The Hurricanes win the scrum and send the ball out to Savea. He almost gets through but is caught and the ball is moved to the other side. Milner-Skudder gets to within a metre but then the Crusaders win a penalty for not releasing. 

34.00: The Hurricanes come away with the ball after the line out and they go wide and Dane Coles bashes over in the corner. TRY! 

35.00: Otere Black takes the conversion kick but hits the post and misses. 

36.00: Ardie Savea tries to attack down the wing but is caught. The ball stays alive and Savea gets another go but this time he loses the ball forward trying to get around Nadolo. 

39.00: The Hurricanes lose another line out – thats 1 from 6 but the Crusaders kick the ball into touch. 

40.00: As the siren sounds the Hurricanes win a line out, run the ball but then the Crusaders win a penalty. Carter kicks the ball into touch. It’s half time. 

The half time score is Crusaders 16 Hurricanes 8

The Crusaders kick off and we are underway with the second half. 

41.00: The Hurricanes get the ball in their 22, Ma’a Nonu chips the ball through and Conrad Smith regathers and Ardie Savea and Milber Skudder combine down the wing and Ardie Savea goes into to score. TRY!

42.00: Black converts the try. 

43.00: Dan Carter takes a knock in a tackle after receiving a forward pass from Robbie Fruean. 

44.00: Mitchell Drummond is replaced by Andy Ellis. Funnell and Tupou also come off. 

46.00: The Crusaders win a line out and attack the Hurricanes in their 22. The Crusaders get the advantage and continue to put the Canes under pressure. Nafi Tuitavake goes over to score for the Crusaders but there isn’t a lot of celebrating as there could have been a knock on. The TMO will make the call. The TRY is awarded. Tuitavake’s first try in 18 matches. 

47.00: Carter slots the conversion – Brad Shields is replaced by Victor Vito and Jeffery Toomaga-Allen comes off and is replaced by Ben Franks. 

53.00: Milner-Skudder and Julian Savea combine down the wing but Savea is pushed into touch after a chip ahead and Matt Todd gets back to get the ball. 

55.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes. Black takes the shot and nails it. 

57.00: Nadolo breaks away slipping off three tackles and gets the ball away to Matt Todd who is stopped short of the line but his momentum carries him over for the TRY! 

58.00: Dan Carter slots the conversion. 

61.00: The Hurricanes make a mess of their line out again so the Crusaders get a scrum put in. The Crusaders win the line out but after they run the ball they knock on. 

65.00: The Hurricanes win a penalty so they kick for touch. The Hurricanes put the Crusaders under pressure in their 22 but the home side hangs on. 

66.00: After an extended period of play from the Hurricanes they knock on. 

70.00; Milner-Skudder makes a break down the wing, he beats about six players but eventually gets isolated. 

71.00: The ball gets kicked ahead for the corner and Nadolo chases. Nonu tries to shoulder him off but Nadolo lands on the ball and scores the bonus point TRY! This happened while Matt Proctor was down so the Crusaders had the extra man. The game is paused for Proctor. 

72.00: Carter misses the conversion. 

74.00: The Hurricanes look to hit back. They work the ball up to the Crusaders 5m line but the ball is lost. 

75.00: The Crusaders are offside so the Hurricanes take a quick tap penalty. This happens again so the Hurricanes tap it again. 

76.00: The Hurricanes go through the phases on attack but the Crusaders hold them out. Motu Matu’u goes down injured and has to be helped from the field. 

77.00: The Hurricanes get another tap. They drive over the line but are held up/short so they get the put in at the scrum. 

79.00: The Hurricanes continue to flirt with the Crusaders tryline but they cannot get through. They have a final chance with a 5m scrum. 

80.00: The siren sounds. Perenara puts the ball in but it has to be reset. 

81.00: The Hurricanes press at the line again but they are held out and time runs out. 

Thats it. The Crusaders win.
