Waratahs beat Sharks in Sydney

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Sydney based Waratahs and the Durban based Sharks the Waratahs have won three and the Sharks two.

We are waiting for the kick off. The Sharks have lost Beast Mtawarira have been able to bring in Willem Alberts. Dale Chadwick starts. Mouritz Botha is out as is Kyle Cooper. Giant Mtyanda comes on to the bench. 

0.001: The Waratahs kick off and the match is underway. The ball goes into touch after one phase.  

1.00: The Wartahs win the line out and Michael Hooper slips an inside pass to Adam Ashley-Cooper who runs in the first TRY! 

2.00: Michael Foley adds the conversion. 

4.00: The Waratahs try to attack the Sharks but they knock at the breakdown near the half way line. 

6.00: The Sharks almost get through but Lwazi Mvovo loses the ball from a kick. The Waratahs counter attack and end up kicking for touch. 

8.00: The Sharks knock on at the line out. Waratahs scrum. 

11.00: The Waratahs are forced to take the ball into touch near their 5m line. The Sharks win the line out and drive forward but the ball goes dead. Waratahs put in. 

14.00: The Waratahs win the ball from the back of the scrum and clear it into touch. The Sharks win the ball from the line out but Marcell Coetzee passes the ball out and it goes into touch. 

15.00: The Waratahs win the ball and Michael Hooper slips straight through but somehow he loses the ball as he runs for the line with no one near him. 

16.00: Penalty from the scrum to the Sharks. Frans Steyn will take a shot at the posts. 

17.00:Steyn takes his time but nails the kick. The Sharks are on the board. 

19.00: The Waratahs have the Sharks on the backfoot after a Hooper/Beale break. They get into the Sharks 22 and win a penalty. Foley will kick for posts. 

20.00: Foley takes the penalty kick and nails it. 

22.00: The Sharks work the ball to the Waratahs 5m line but then they get isolated and concede a penalty. Foley kicks upfield. 

23.00: JP Pietersen almost gets an intercept but the ball goes to ground. 

25.00: Penalty to the Waratahs. Foley doesnt find touch. Mvovo tries to counter but the Waratahs turn it over and counter attack. The Sharks (Bismarck) turns the ball over but the Sharks then throw a forward pass. 

27.00: Scrum penalty to the Waratahs. Foley will kick for posts. 

28.00; Foley slots the penalty. 

32.00: The Sharks have a line out in the Waratahs 22. They win the line out and attack the Wararahs. The Sharks get swamped by the Waratahs defence and the ball is taken into touch by the Waratahs. 

33.00: There is a break in play as Bismarck du Plessis has a blister on his foot. The game resumes. 

34.00: Sharks win the line out and go through the phases attacking the Waratahs. After 8 phases the Sharks win a penalty for hands in the ruck. Steyn will kick for posts. 

35.00: Steyn lands the penalty and doubles the Sharks score. 

37.00: The Waratahs work the ball into the Sharks half. They win a line out and start going through the phases. Israel Folau almost gets through. The Waratahs continue to press at the line and the Sharks win a penalty. A fight breaks out so the TMO is called in. After an extensive review Tolu Latu gets a warning. 

40.00: The Sharks kick for touch and after some confusion its half time. 

The half time score is Waratahs 13 Sharks 6

The Sharks kick off and the second half is underway. 

41.00: The Sharks get the ball back from the restart and Mvovo gets around Taqele Naiyaravoro but gets taken into touch. 

42.00: Penalty from the scrum to the Waratahs for early engagement. Foley kicks for touch but doesnt find it. The Sharks counter attack. 

46.00: The Waratahs win a scrum and attack the Sharks. The Sharks don’t roll away in the tackle (JP Pietersen) so the Waratahs win a penalty and kick for touch. 

47.00: The Waratahs get some momentum as they move the ball through the hands. They get to the Sharks 5m line but the ball goes to ground and Frans Steyn gets a boot to it. The Waratahs regather the ball and start the attack again. Penalty to the Sharks. 

48.00:  Lionel Cronje kicks for touch but Odwa Ndungane chases the ball and beats Tolu Latu to the ball and runs in the Sharks first TRY! 

49.00; Steyn takes the conversion kick from outwide. He curls it too far and it goes across the face of the posts. 

51.00: The Waratahs set up a line out on the Sharks 5m line. They win the ball and set up the maul. They go wide to the backs and  Naiyaravoro crashes over in the corner. We go to the TMO to check the grounding. If no try we will go back for a penalty to the Waratahs for a collapsed maul. It’s a TRY! The Sharks are not happy with something at the line out. 

53.00: Foley adds the conversion. 

57.00:The Sharks go through five phases and they stretch the Waratahs and Frans Steyn gets the ball in space runs in a fairly soft try at the finish. TRY! 

58.00; Steyn adds the conversion. 

62.00; Penalty to the Waratahs. Foley slots the kick. 

65.00: The Waratahs win the ball from a scrum. Its scrappy and they lose the ball. The Sharks steal the ball and counter. They chip ahead but Adam Ashley-Cooper gets back and runs it to the 22m line. Foley kicks for touch and the Sharks take a quick line out. 

66.00: The Sharks  move the ball across the field and Ndungane chips the ball into touch.  

67.00: Penalty to the Waratahs for an intentional knock down. Foley lines up the posts. 

69.00: Foley slots the kick and the Waratahs lead by 8. 

70.00: The Sharks immediately hit back with a pacy run down the wing from S’bura Sithole. We go to the TMO to check. No try. Knee in touch. 

73.00: The Sharks are having a lot of success kicking behind the Waratahs forcing them to chase the ball back in their 22. This time the Waratahs get back. 

74.00: Waratahs win the ball from a scrum and kick for touch. The Sharks have the line out in the Waratahs 22. 

77.00: The Waratahs sustain some pressure from the Sharks and win a penalty. They kick for touch. 

78.00: The Sharks lose the ball as they clear from a scrum and Bernard Foley chases the ball and gets it and runs in the Tahs third TRY. 

79.00: Foley adds the conversion. 

80.00: The siren sounds and the Waratahs take the ball into touch. 

The Waratahs win.
