All Blacks and Crusaders star Dan Carter says that he is confident his form in improving as the Super Rugby season progresses but that it is too early to say he will be called up for the world cup.
The Crusaders are in danger of missing the play offs and they have come in for criticism for not performing at their best and lacking consistency.
In their most recent match the Crusaders smashed the Reds 58 -17 in Christchurch on Friday and Carter showed signs that he is returning to his past form.
“It feels like my form has been getting better as the season has gone on and really enjoying getting a bit of game time,” Carter told ONE News.
“I’ve almost played twice as many games as I played last year so that’s encouraging as long as my form is heading in the right direction then I’m happy with that.”
One of the big talking points around Carter’s game this year has been Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder’s decision to play Carter at 12 and Colin Slade at 10 but the All Black star says he has no problem moving out to second-five.
“Sladey’s playing extremely well, he’s been on fire all year and really enjoying playing alongside him in the 12 jersey we’ve formed a good wee combination there.”
Recent injuries to Aaron Cruden and Beauden Barrett have brought Carter to the front of the All Black selection order but he says he is not going to relax on his laurels.
“A goal for me this year is to really work hard and just try and be part of that All Blacks squad.
“You never take anything for granted and there’s plenty of competition there.
“That’s a real goal of mine and that means playing well for the Crusaders.”
This week the Crusaders have a bye but return next week to face the Hurricanes in Nelson.
