Baabaas call up Wales’ Jones & Cuthbert

Welsh duo Adam Jones and Alex Cuthbert have been called up by the Barbarians for their matches against Six Nations winners Ireland and runners up England later this month.

Jones and Cuthbert, neither of whom have played for the Barbarians before, have been called up by coach Robbie Deans for the games against Ireland at Limerick’s Thomond Park on May 28 and an England XV at Twickenham on May 31.

Cardiff wing Cuthbert has scored 14 tries in 32 matches for Wales, while Jones, who is due to join Harlequins from the Blues at the end of this season, retired from international rugby in January with 95 caps.

“I’ve always wanted to play for the Barbarians and I’m looking forward to it,” Jones said in a press release. “I’ve heard great things from those who’ve been involved in the past.

“I grew up in a rugby-mad family and watched tapes of Gareth Edwards playing for the Barbarians and scoring his famous try (against New Zealand in 1973).

“Wales, the Lions and the Barbarians were the big three you aspired to play for and it’s good to finally complete that set.”
