The Highlanders will contest the rest of the 2015 Super Rugby season without Joe Wheeler who has been ruled out due to injury.
Highlanders forward Wheeler injured his knee in last week’s loss to the Brumbies and scans have revealed that he ruptured ligaments and he will be out for a lengthy period.
“He’s a big part of the team, a big part of the pack – obviously does our lineouts, he’s a big loss for us,” Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph told the The Southland Times.
“I feel for the player because he puts a lot into the Highlanders. Off the field he’s running TV shows and playing games and on the field he’s been doing the business.”
The Highlanders are expected to rely on Tom Franklin and Mark Reddish as Wheeler’s replacement.
