Read pleased with Crusaders performance step up

Crusaders captain Kieran Read says that their 29-15 Super Rugby victory over the Blues could be the start of their turnaround.

The Crusaders recovered from two losses – at home – against New Zealand Conference rivals by beating the Blues in Christchurch.

The Christchurch side’s bonus point victory moved them up in the standings from 10th to 9th and the gap between them and the play off places is just three points.

Read admitted that the e seven-times champions had kept their play-off chances alive but had a lot of work to do.

“It’s a start but we can’t too carried away, we’ve just got to keep working at it,” he said.

The Crusaders were beaten 9-26 by the Chiefs in Christchurch and Read said that he was pleased with the way they improved in a week.

“It wasn’t perfect but a big step up from last week,” said Read.

Super Rugby gets no easier for the Crusaders next week as they travel to Wellington to face Super Rugby’s leaders the Hurricanes.
